You will need to consider how many people will be using the kitchen island or table on a regular basis. However, kitchen chairs can of course be bough separately if more are needed. Of you will need to consider how much room you have available and if there will be enough space to move around them. It is a good idea to measure the height of table so you know how high your chairs should be. Alternatively you could find chairs that are adjustable in height.

If you have a busy house-hold you will need to consider the practicality of your seating options. For example, it may be sensible to consider how easy it is to keep them clean. Both plastic and wooden chairs can be easily cleaned but you may also want to consider using slip-on covers which also allow you to wash them easily. Additionally, benches are often popular in busy house-holds due to the versatility and utilisation of space.

You will also need to take into consideration the type of flooring you have in your kitchen. For example ceramic and some floor tiles can get damaged if the kitchen chairs do not have protective pads on the bottom. However, this is generally not an issue if you are using laminate of vinyl flooring.
Of course if there are children in the house you may want to consider certain safety aspect. If the chairs are high like a bar stool for example, it would be a good idea to have a stool with a back to it and preferably one that does not swivel.
